‘Constantine’ Renewed As An Animated Series On CW Seed; Matt Ryan Returning

Back in May of 2015, NBC decided to cancel Constantine after just one season due to poor ratings. After cancellation, there was an outcry by fans of the character to get the show renewed in some way, either on the CW where the majority of DC’s television shows reside, or by one of the many streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime), and the demand to see him again is what ultimately led to Matt Ryan reprising his role as the Hellblazer in two episodes of Arrow.

Now, on the heels of learning that the CW has renewed all of its DCTV shows for another season, we now learn that Constantine will indeed be making a return, but as an animated series on CW Seed, the channel’s online home for animation. The series’ first season will consist of 5, 10 minute episodes.

In late August 2015 , the CW debuted an animated Vixen series on the streaming platform, and the response to the character is what led to her eventual appearance on The Flash, Arrow, and a recurring role on the current season of Legends of Tomorrow.

If Vixen can make the jump from animated to live-action, it’s possible that John Constantine will find his way back to television again.
