The Predator appears to be shaping up quite nicely as it prepares for filming to begin next month. The sequel, directed by Shane Black and written by Black and Fred Dekker, is looking to get more in line with the original film that started it all. A Predator film from the man behind Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, and this year’s widely praised The Nice Guys is already something to get excited about, but we’ve also been promised an R-rating, which this franchise without a doubt deserves.
Now THR reports that Trevante Rhodes has joined the ensemble cast opposite Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn. While specific details are still under lock and key, we do know that Rhodes will play the best friend of Holbrook’s character, both of which are playing ex-marines who are forced into action after an encounter with the titular creature. Rhodes may be best known for being one of three actors to inhabit the role of Chiron in Moonlight. Rhodes also appeared in the pilot of Westworld and more recently signed on to star opposite Chris Hemsworth in Horse Soldiers.
Black has also revealed via Collider that the film does not revolve around a suburban setting and that the films cast will somewhat resemble the dynamic of the original film. Rhodes has blown many away with his performance in Moonlight so it’ll be nice to see what he can do in a film like The Predator.
