With the record-breaking numbers Rogue One has been making following its December 16th release date, the Star Wars franchise has shown complete domination in the December box office for the second consecutive year. This domination does not appear to be stopping anytime soon, as Episode VIII is scheduled to premiere in theaters in December of this year, making it the third Star Wars film in a row to have complete control over the December box office numbers. However, for some time now the world was expecting the fourth new Star Wars film, and the second anthology film, to be released in May of 2018 which would inevitably put an end to their streak of December releases.
Regardless of previous knowledge, a new rumor has surfaced according to MakingStarWars.net that indicates a new release date for the untitled Han Solo spin-off. While the first official release date for the Han Solo project was announced to be May 25th, 2018 the new rumor states it will be altered to arrive in theaters on December 13th of the same year. This would replicate the patter of the previous Star Wars films before it, all three of which waited until December to premiere.
Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy spoke on the Han Solo project in a recent interview. She was asked several questions regarding the film, including how close they are to beginning production, to which she replied:
“We are actually very close. We are going to start shooting in February!”
With the new year beginning and production beginning only one month from now, fans can begin to expect new details surrounding the untitled Han Solo project to surface. Little information regarding the film is currently known to those outside the cast and crew, so it will only be a matter of time until more knowledge is released to the public.
