Michael Fassbender Unsure About Future of ‘X-Men’ Franchise

In 2016, Fox gave us one brilliant X-Men related movie with Deadpool and one underwhelming X-Men related movie with X-Men: Apocalypse. All film is subjective, but after the incredible X-Men: Days of Future Past it seems fair to say that a lot of fans were disappointed with the latest comic book movie from Fox.

Recently there have been a lot of rumours and reports regarding the future of the ‘X-Men’ franchise. Some have said that Fox is rebooting the whole universe but keeping James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in their roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively, while others have said that Fox is doing a full reboot with a brand new cast. Other reports have suggested that Fox could be focusing on adapting ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’ from the comics which presumably would be starring Sophie Turner from X-Men: Apocalypse.

A lot of different reports from different sources but it seems as though Magento himself (Michael Fassbender) is just as unclear about the future as we are. While on Empire’s podcast, Fassbender was asked if we would be seeing him return as Magneto in future ‘X-Men’ films, to which he replied the following…

“I don’t know to be honest. I haven’t made any sort of decision on it because I have no idea what’s happening next with the franchise to be honest.”

Given that Logan is just around the corner and it being Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart’s final films as Wolverine and Charles Xavier, it would be a great end to the current run of X-Men movies to have the current franchise end with the two characters that started it all 16 years ago.

What do you think of Fassbender’s comments? Do you think we’ll see him return as Magneto in a a future ‘X-Men’ movie? Or do you think Fox should do a full reboot with a brand new cast? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below or on our Instagram and Twitter!
