When the famous Knightmare sequence in this year’s Batman V Superman first teased that the evil alien tyrant DARKSEID was coming to the DCEU (the giant Ω sign in the ground), fans theorized over when the iconic DC villain would actually appear on the big screen.
While Zack Snyder, director of both BvS and next year’s Justice League did confirm that Darkseid was coming, he will not be the main villain of Justice League – for now, Batman and his allies will be up against Steppenwolf and his parademons.
However, DC guru and superfan Kevin Smith does not fully believe that. During a recent episode of his podcast Fatman On Batman, he explained why he thinks we will be getting Darkseid in Justice League.
“I call bullsh*t, I think Steppenwolf is a villain of this piece, but I think we’re getting Darkseid, and I think that they’ve been keeping it from us, like the same way we didn’t know we were getting Doomsday…I think Darkseid is in this! Just give me some Darkseid…it can’t just be Steppenwolf…he’s just a pawn!”
I personally do not think this is going to happen. If I had to, I’d bet money that Steppenwolf will remain the main and only villain for the first Justice League film, but as a sort of herald for Darkseid. Darkseid is one of DC Comics’ most powerful villains ever, and I do not expect them to use his full potential in the very first ensemble movie.
