The CW’s The Flash isn’t complete without an evil speedster for Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to go up against. In season two, it was Hunter Zolomon a.k.a. Zoom (Teddy Sears) who terrorized Barry and Central City until his defeat in the season finale. However, if you recall, he wasn’t actually killed; rather, two Time Wraiths transformed him into the Black Flash before bringing him into the speed force.
In a recent interview with TV Guide, Sears was asked whether or not fans could hope for a return of the Black Flash at some point, and while the actor did not give a definitive answer, he did reveal that there might be plans for a Black Flash storyline.
“Zoom has been transformed into Black Flash, who has quite a place in the mythology of ‘The Flash’. He’s like the grim reaper for speedsters. Andrew Kreisberg, the head writer and EP, has talked about their interest in having a Black Flash return at some point in the series.”
However, there might be legal difficulties that could stand in the way of that. Sears is now on board with Fox and will star in the 2017 series 24: Legacy, which could contractually hinder him from appearing on a CW show.
“It would be a lot of fun to drop back into that world,” Sears admits. “We’ll just have to see if the guys on the other end feel the same way. It sounds like they do, but it’s funny – now I belong to Fox, so there’s lots of people that would have to give a thumbs up. But I really hope so.”
Personally, I think Hunter Zolomon was a very intriguing villain because of how close he was to Team Flash. He knew all of them inside out, pretended to be another Flash from a different earth to get to work with them and even had a romantic relationship with Caitlin Snow.
