Billie Lourd To Have Much Bigger Role In ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’

When Carrie Fisher’s (who plays Leia Organa) daughter, 24-year-old Billie Lourd, joined the Star Wars franchise in last year’s The Force Awakens, her character Lieutenant Connix had a very small role. During a recent panel for her TV series Scream And Queens!, though, Lourd was asked if Connix would be more present in next December’s Episode VIII, which she confirmed.

“Connix is back and better than ever. Yes. I might get arrested now, sorry  [director] Rian [Johnson]!”

Of course, Lourd was on set with her mother, Carrie Fisher, which she also discussed. According to her, being colleagues started out a little awkward, but things soon fell into place.

“At first it was like really stressful because we were both stressed out for each other. When I would have a line she would be like “Oh God, is she going to be OK?” And then when she would have dialogue I would go “Oh God, is she going to be OK? I hope my mom is alright!”

We were watching each other’s backs in an aggressive way in the beginning. But on this film, on VIII, we kind of got more into the swing of things and were having a really good time together. It will probably never happen again unless she gets on Scream Queens! It’s awesome because I’m such a weird mom-person, I’m excited for my kids to see me and my mom in Star Wars together, me and the buns and her not in the buns anymore, but in some other weird hairstyle [laughs] I think that will be so awesome.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, and will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
