Josh Boone Talks ‘New Mutants’ Film And Confirms Villain

Back in August we learned that Fox’s recently announced New Mutant’s movie will have The Fault in Our Stars director, Josh Boone, and screenwriters, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, attached to the project. Boone recently spoke to Collider and opened up about how the idea of ‘New Mutants’ got proposed to Fox…

“We had loved this X-Men spinoff, The New Mutants. We had loved Bill Sienkiewicz’s run with Chris Claremont that had Demon Bear. It was really dark, interesting, and different from the typical X-Men stories that we had read.

After I made The Fault in Our Stars, we made Fox a comic book. It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do.

We brought it to Simon [Kinberg] and he really liked it. We’ve been going for the past year and a half to get it ready, and I’m about to go location scout and we have a release date now.”

A few weeks ago some concept art of the main villain, ‘Demon Bear’ was released. Demon Bear draws his power from negative human emotions and also has the ability to teleport. Check out the concept art below…

It’s also been rumoured that Charles Xavier will appear in the film but given the current uncertainty of how Fox is going to continue with their X-Men Universe, we don’t know if James McAvoy will be reprising his role or if they will use a new actor if the ‘New Mutants’ film is the first in a rebooted ‘X-Men’ universe.
