Back in season 2 of Gotham, fans saw the demise of Jerome, a character who was the closest thing the show has gotten to showing us the Joker, without actually calling him by the name. Despite this, fans have been forming theories left and right about his character, or another Joker-inspired character coming along. Teasers for the second half of the third season have shown fans that Jerome will be back in some capacity, which is exciting to say the least. On top of this, Cameron Monaghan, the actor behind Jerome, tweeted an image of himself in what looks to be a traditional Joker-look.

The tweet was quickly deleted, which could very well point to the studio not wanting him to give that away. Nevertheless, fans have seen it and are surely going nuts. If he does eventually take on the official title of the Clown Prince of Crime, it will remove some of the ambiguity from the character. The Joker’s origin is widely left a mystery, though this show is not opposed to changing the mythos of Batman around a bit, so if they do take that route it won’t be much of a shock. Gotham returns January 16th of next year.
