Although by November 2017 we will have seen Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in action twice, he won’t embark on a solo adventure until 2018 – a formula different than that of the MCU. As it was recently revealed, Aquaman will have a $160 million budget and primarily film in Australia, providing more than 1,200 jobs for locals. That budget is just slightly less than what Suicide Squad operated on, even though David Ayer’s baddie-centered flick featured a considerably higher number of big-name actors.
Australia’s Gold Coast is and has been a prime shooting location for superhero movies, as Thor: Ragnarok filmed there as well.
“Making movies is core business for the Gold Coast, supporting jobs and businesses throughout the region. Our decision to back in ‘Thor’ was a marvel and so will be our decision to back ‘Aquaman’,” said Australian Parliament Member Scott Morrison.
Aside from Australia, though, director James Wan will also shoot scenes on the coast of the Italian island Sicily, starting in September of 2017.
Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson and is set to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
