‘The Walking Dead’ EP Talks All Out War With Negan And Mystery Figure

[SPOILERS FOR THE WALKING DEAD MID-SEASON FINALE BELOW]

In the final moments of Sunday’s mid-season finale of  The Walking Dead, we got our first tease of the revolution against Negan with Rick and some of the main cast arriving at ‘The Hilltop’ settlement to talk with Hilltop leader Gregory about coming together to rise up against the saviours. In an interview with Deadline, executive producer of the show Gale Ann Hurd spoke about the war to come…

“There’s no question that I think with Michonne’s pep talk and with Daryl back, Rick is finding his mojo again. I don’t think they’re going to be willing servants of Negan’s anymore.”

Hurd also brought up the deaths of Spencer and Olivia in the mid-season finale…

“It really is more about how it affects the remaining group. With Spencer that’s a horrific death but everyone knew that he was pretty untrustworthy. That he was plotting against Rick. He was vocal in that with Father Gabriel. So he’s not someone that was probably going to motivate anyone to do anything because his death seemed almost deserved, whereas Olivia was completely blameless, completely innocent. In Negan’s world he just says kill somebody and you never know whose number is going to come up. That’s not a world that the rest of our Survivors are going to want to continue to live in.”

In Sunday’s episode we also got a quick tease of a mystery figure wearing boots with barbed wire wrapped around them. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was asked about when we will see more of this figure…

“I really wish I could tell you. All I can say is, those boots, you definitely recognize those from earlier, they’re connected to that boat scene. That’s a big part of what we’re dealing with when we come back next half of the season. So we’ll be, ya know, revealing that soon.”

There was no telling whether or not the producers would reveal the mystery figure in the second half of season 7 or leave it until season 8 to address the mystery character’s identity but from these comments it seems as though we’ll find out in the spring of next year.

What do you think of the above comments? Are you looking forward to seeing the all out war between The Saviours and the other settlements? Who do you think the mystery character is? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below or on our Instagram and Twitter!
