Deadpool has been nominated for two Golden Globes awards for Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical, and has nominated Ryan Reynolds for Best Performance By An Actor-Musical or Comedy. Here’s how Reynolds responded to the news:
Thank you, Golden Globes! As we speak, the entire Deadpool team is engaged in a grotesque, early morning tickle-fight. pic.twitter.com/l2LJT32tAi

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen to recognize Deadpool among very serious award contenders. Ryan Reynolds is going up against some heavyweights like Ryan Gosling in La La Land, Colin Farrell in The Lobster, Hugh Grant in Florence Foster Jenkins, and Jonah Hill in War Dogs. For the best motion picture, Deadpool is going up against the heavily favored La La Land, Florence Foster Jenkins, Sing Street, and 20 Century Women.
This is exciting news that a comic book movie starring a foul-mouthed wise cracking mercenary is being recognized. Comic book movies in general have not really made a presence during awards season. The last comic book movie to make an impact like this is 2008’s The Dark Knight, with Heath Ledger’s iconic performance as The Joker winning all the major awards posthumously.
Whoever wins, it is definitely an honor that Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool are even in the same conversations as these movies, and maybe come Academy Awards season the movie will steal some nominations.
Who’s watching the Golden Globes just for Ryan Reynolds?
