In the past few days, there have been growing rumors that Conor McGregor, a two time UFC champion, would play a role in the next season of Game of Thrones. No comment had come from McGregor or GoT representatives confirming or denying the rumor, but today Dana White confirmed that the fighter would appear in the show next season, during an interview with Fox Sports.
While talking about events coming up soon in the UFC, the subject of Game of Thrones was brought up. White seemed like he wasn’t going to say anything at first, but eventually spilled the beans and confirmed McGregor’s appearance in the show.
“I’m glad he did it. It’ll be great. I’m excited for him.”
We don’t know anything as to what role he will be playing, and whether he will be playing a smaller role or not. Only time will tell. Of course we can speculate as to what we think the role might be. Since the fighter is known for his multiple wins, dominant fighting and “hands of stone”, it would be a safe bet to assume that he will most likely be in a role of a warrior, possibly one of the wildings under John Snow’s command, as they normally fight more dirty, and different than the organized and near-elegant way the official soldiers in Westeros’ capital would.
On the other hand, he could also be playing a role as someone who fights with his words, as the UFC champ is known for his loud mouth and trash talking at other fighters. Perhaps a role much like the one that Steve Love, an Ottawa-based comedian and actor who does amazing impressions of “Game of Thrones” characters, made in season 6, episode 8 “No One.” He played a very small role that didn’t really change the story in any way. I don’ think McGregor will be playing any sort of role that is bigger than the one that Steve Love played, but will probably be showing off his fighting skills somehow.
