Chandler Riggs Talks How College Will Affect His Future For ‘The Walking Dead’

Being a child actor, while balancing a normal life is definitely not easy. Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl in The Walking Dead, has just gotten accepted into college, but many are wondering if he’s leaving the show because of it. Riggs got accepted into Auburn University, which is in Alabama.

His father posted on Facebook implying that Riggs might not be back after season 7. Then his mother said he’s not going anywhere. Riggs in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter talked about his future college plans, and said this:

“You never know how it will go. I really do hope it works out because that would be really cool. I like to be in The Walking Dead and I like to play video games and just hang out with my friends and try to be as normal as possible so going to college would be another really cool, normal experience in my life. I want for it to work out.”

So it’s clear that Riggs wants to do his best with the balancing of work and school. Alabama is right next to Georgia, where they film the show, so it could work. When asked about how it would work he said this:

“Theoretically, I could take one or two classes on campus and maybe an online class. My professors would have to be willing to cooperate. It wouldn’t be easy but I think that could be possible.”

When asked if he had already signed a contract for season 8, he simply said he could’t answer that. So the future of Carl is uncertain for the time being. It’s great that he’s pursuing a degree, while being on one of the most watched shows on television. I’m sure people are going to recognize him on campus.
