Donnie Yen is an actor out of Hong Kong who is also skilled in martial arts. He will be appearing as a member of the Rebellion in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and director Gareth Edwards couldn’t seem to be more thrilled to have him be a part of the project. In a recent interview, Edwards talked about the intensity of one scene in particular that showcases Yen’s moves:
“That was cool. That was Donnie full on. He basically – we set that whole thing up, and we had to shoot most of it in a day, and it’s pretty remarkable what he does. I didn’t really have a full appreciation for him until he came on the set and did an action scene. He was [already] a great actor, and we got on really well, but it was only he did his first martial arts moment where I was like, ‘Holy shit. This is not a human being!’”
“I have been converted. All my films will have Donnie Yen in them from now on.”
It’s always exciting to see a director who cherishes their cast because those relationships seem to bring about a better film. With glowing early reviews and praises of actors from the director, fans should be itching in their seats for the arrival of Rogue One which is only 12 days away!
