Over the past two years, it has become evident that the classic solo superhero movie is becoming outdated. Almost every Avenger was part of the third Captain America movie, the Hulk is going to be in the next Thor movie, Professor X in Logan, and so on. With the first MCU Spider-Man movie scheduled to hit theaters next year, that trend is only going to continue, as both Tony Stark and his head of security Happy Hogan will be part of Homecoming.
In an exclusive clip shown at Comic Con Experience this weekend, Happy (Jon Favreau) was seen giving Peter Parker (Tom Holland) an upgraded Spidey suit, and when asked by Cinemablend to comment on that scene, Favreau had the following to say:
“I’m like… I’m looking after him [Peter]. He needs someone to help him out.”
Although he has been a part of the MCU since 2008’s Iron Man, Favreau is still a fanboy like the rest of us. When asked about Tom Holland’s debut as the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War, he revealed that he was gushing every time he was on screen.
“I think Spider-Man made me smile every second the character was on the screen. I was so pleased with the tone of the film in general, but those sequences specifically, and I just loved the way they introduced the character. I love the version of Tony Stark I saw, especially in those scenes. As somebody who was part of the beginning of the screen persona of Tony Stark, I thought that this was really impressive and a wonderful expansion of that character.”
Favreau concluded by reflecting on the process of filming Homecoming, which he described as “a lot of fun”:
“I had a lot of fun on that movie, working with Robert [Downey Jr.] and everything. It was a good time, and I liked the whole gang. It was really terrific.”
