With each passing day, fans of the DC Cinematic Universe (or DCEU) clamor over each other to find the slightest hint of a new character possibly being brought into the fold, one of those characters undoubtedly being Dinah Laurel Lance a.k.a. Black Canary. The character was recently portrayed by Katie Cassidy on Arrow, but since the character’s demise in the show’s 4th season (which caused to show to dip considerably in ratings), fans of the black-clad badass are anxious to see where she’ll pop up next.
During a Q&A session with fans on Twitter, Katheryn Winnick – who plays Lagertha on Vikings – was asked if she’d be interested in playing Black Canary, should DC decide to develop a movie about her comic book love interest, Green Arrow. The actress then responded with the following tweet:
Winnick then proceeded to retweet another Twitter user who seems to support the idea of her as Black Canary.

About a year ago, a rumor came from Latino-Review which stated that Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), and Alona Tal (Veronica Mars, Supernatural) were being eyed by WB for the role of Black Canary. It also mentioned that should the character and actress perform up to the studio’s expectation in her rumored appearance in Justice League; she’d appear with a more prominent role in a Birds of Prey spin-off film; a film that Margot Robbie is currently helping develop at Warner Brothers. We don’t know if the studio went along with either of the ladies mentioned above, but if not, they should give Katheryn Winnick a consideration.
Aside from her uncanny resemblance to Black Canary, Winnick has also proven herself as an actress who can play a badass female lead, as proven by her role as Lagertha. Interestingly enough, her Vikings co-star, Travis Fimmel, looks like he’d be a good choice to play Green Arrow in the DCEU as well. If WB chooses to go with Winnick as Black Canary, they wouldn’t have to look far to find her Oliver Queen.
