Negan is arguably the best villain The Walking Dead has seen so far. Not only is he absolutely terrifying, but he’s also managed to completely break our survivors’ spirit (for the most part) to the point where fighting back is not even an option for them.
However, as compelling as Negan might be a villain, we do not really know anything about himself as a man. His past, what kind of person he was before the apocalypse, if he used to have a family, etc. TWD showrunner Scott Gimple, though, recently teased that we might very well get to see just that.
“I do believe yes, it’s in the future,” Gimple tells Yahoo!. “You know, I’m always careful about this, [because] things can absolutely change. There’s a loose plan in place I have.”
As almost everything else on the show, Negan’s backstory is something that’s already been done in the comics. The mini-comic Here’s Negan will likely serve as the primary source material, should the showrunners decide to give Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan a little bit more depth (which I absolutely think they should and will).
