After actor Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl in The Walking Dead, announced that he was accepted into a college, the rumor mill started spreading one that said that he’s be leaving the show soon, a.k.a. would be killed off the show soon. Riggs’ father also reportedly commented on social media “#Freedom”, referring to the announcement , suggesting that Riggs’ starting college would mark the end for his character in the show. This wouldn’t be substantial if the young actor’s original contract wasn’t ending, but it is.
In lieu of all these rumors, Tom Payne, who plays Jesus in the show, was asked about it, and he relayed a relaxed message.
“I think Carl is the future of the show. I mean, is the future of the comic books, I think. At the end of the day, I think Carl is the guy at the end on the last page, and I don’t know if they’ll go that way on the TV show, but I think it would be a logical place for them to go. Who knows?”
This makes sense, knowing that even series creator Robert Kirkman has said that Carl is his favorite character in the comics, and while he can see Rick dying, Carl would not be. Obviously, anything can happen, but seeing as his character arc isn’t anywhere near coming to an end in the show, Carl’s death seems unlikely. Like Payne said before though, anything can happen.
What do you think about Carl possibly leaving the show? Do you think the writers would do that, or do you think that he’ll outlive Rick? Let us know in the comments below, or on Twitter or Instagram!
