With Doctor Strange being out for almost a month now and being met with rave reviews, scoring a 4/5 on Common Sense Media and 7.9/10 on IMDb, earning over half a billion dollars at the box office, and setting a new record as Marvel’s best solo character debut film, there’s not much else to say other than: Doctor Strange killed it.
With that being said, there are still critics, per usual, and many of them have been about the portrayal of Dormammu. The Eater of Souls is a compelling and frightening character in the comic books, but in the film was reduced to a talking head, comparable to Parallax in the 2011 Green Lantern film directed by Martin Campbell.
In an article posted by DailySuperHero.com, they revealed the some of the concept art of Dormammu, and by the looks of it, Marvel and director Scott Derrickson, Sinister and Exorcism of Emily Rose, could have gone in a very different direction with the villain.
These are just a few of the images released, but as you can see, Ryan Meinerding had a different idea of how the entity would be portrayed.
Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton, is in theaters now.
