In August, it was announced that Jimmy Smits would be reprising his role as Bail Organa in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. For those that don’t know or need a refresher, Bail is the adoptive father of Princess Leia and one of the founders of the Rebel Alliance, and perhaps the most important, and relevant, one in this story.
Thanks to the US Weekly Rogue One: A Star Wars Story special edition, we finally have a first look at his new uniform.

Rogue One takes place about 19 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars IV: A New Hope. In the caption of the photo, Smits gives a little insight on the reason why Organa is wearing the uniform that he is
“[His garb] isn’t as stately as in the other episodes,” Smits tells Us Weekly in the caption of the image, “he isn’t as high up the political food chain.”
In the Legends Universe and now in recent canon works, Organa was considered a founder of the Rebel Alliance and is mentioned and appears in a few episodes of the Star Wars Rebels animated series. In the novel Ahsoka, he recruited the young Jedi into the Rebel Alliance as his new Fulcrum, a center point to bring together other cells of rebels, something we see later, chronologically, on Rebels as well.
From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to be released in theaters on December 16, 2016
