Deadpool 2 has had a tumultuous past few weeks. While the first film opened as a smash hit, and sailed smoothly towards huge numbers at the box office, the second has been having a rough time in pre-production alone. Director Tim Miller left the project a few weeks ago, followed by a swarm of rumors about the cause of his departure. Certain sources claimed that Miller desired a higher budget as opposed to the first’s low budget (at least for a superhero movie) of $58 million, while others reported that Reynolds and Miller had conflicting visions for the story direction that the sequel would take.
Now, David Leitch, one of the directors of John Wick, has been signed on by Fox Studios to direct Deadpool 2. Leitch has years of experience in the stunt coordination business, and also recently wrapped filming on The Coldest City, his latest directorial effort.
If all goes smoothly, Leitch will work well with both Reynolds and Fox and will create a worthy successor to Deadpool.
Deadpool 2 is set to hit theaters on January 12th, 2018 (US).
