With Titanfall 2 just being released on October 28, 2016, Respawn Entertainment has more ideas about the first person shooter, yet it’s not certain that they’re going to be the ones that follow through on them.
In an interview with Glixel, Vince Zampella, CEO for Respawn Entertainment, was asked if the studio had plans on making another Titanfall game. He had this to say about it
“We don’t know yet. The game is, critically, a huge success. We’re really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it’s too early to tell. We’d definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll explore more of it.”
In an interview with IGN in October, Zampella talked about his vision of the future of the franchise
“We don’t have necessarily a trilogy in mind. You always hope when you create something that it’s embraced and that people will love it for generations to come,” he said. “I hope we do more of it. We probably plan to do more–as you know, we have the mobile games as well. I would like to see the universe live on. I think it’s very expandable. I think there’s a lot we can do with it. There’s a lot of great ideas floating around here [at Respawn] that I would love to see come to life.”
Zampella, founder of Infinity Ward, also talked about the Titanfall 2 release date, sandwiching the release between Battlefield 1 (October 21) and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (November 4). Some have said that EA shot themselves in the foot with releasing Titanfall 2 on the day that it did, and their sales supports that claim.
“If the question was, ‘Would I rather have this window to myself?’ Well, of course. I’m not foolish. I’m not foolish that way, anyway. In other ways, probably.”
