Tom Holland Talks ‘Spider-Man’ Contract

Even though Tom Holland has appeared in Captain America: Civil War as the latest incarnation of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, not much has previously been said about the details of his contract in terms of how many movies Holland is to appear in. It’s been speculated that Holland would appear in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War but nothing has been confirmed. In a recent interview with THR, Holland spoke about these details and how many more times we can expect to see him return as the web-slinger…

“They give you options and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies though. I do know I have three Spider-Man [appearances in other] movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They’re very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.”

One thing that we always like to point out is that just because an actor is contracted for a certain number of movies does not necessarily mean that he will be in that many movies. For example, just because Sebastian Stan is contracted for 9 Marvel movies, doesn’t mean he will definitely be in 9 movies. All it means is that IF Marvel wants the actor to return, he is contractually obligated to do so, but Marvel has no obligation to use the character if they don’t want to. That being said, I believe that we will indeed see Tom Holland in 3 Marvel movies and 3 Spider-Man solo movies. It’s unclear if Captain America: Civil War was one of those three ‘other’ movies, but in the case that it is, it potentially means that Holland will most likely be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers 4 in 2019.

Fans and critics have both loved Tom Holland’s interpretation of the character. Given that the new version of Peter Parker is so young, if Holland is up for it, he could be playing the character easily for the next 15 years. We could be looking at the next ‘Hugh Jackman’ of the Marvel/Sony world. The last we heard, Holland explained that his involvement in Avengers: Infinity War was “up in the air” but I think, due to Holland already having a signed contract, that the issue is more related to how much Tom will be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, rather than whether he will actually be included in the movie or not.
