Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller blew everyone away with Deadpool at the beginning of the year and before they had even released the first movie, there were already plans for a sequel. With a production budget of $58 million and then going on to make over $782 million at the box office, Fox was certainly right to go ahead with planning the sequel.
Deadpool 2 hasn’t even started production yet and THR is reporting that Deadpool 3 is already in development at Fox. The report from THR is as follows…
In a sign of how much faith it has in the Reynolds-starring franchise, Fox already is planning Deadpool 3, readying a filmmaker search for a storyline that will involve another X-team, X-Force, say sources.
Keep in mind that none of this information has been officially confirmed by anyone directly involved with the project but given how confident Fox was with the first Deadpool movie, it wouldn’t surprise any of us if this turned out to be true. No doubt that a Deadpool 3 has been ‘in production’ for a while now’ but the report might be indication that they are already focusing on the story details. Fox needs to focus on giving us a great Deadpool 2 before starting anything specific for Deadpool 3 but it’s good to hear that they are thinking long term. X-force would obviously be a great addition to the second movie and we can’t wait to see Ryan Reynolds interact with them on screen.
There have been some ups and downs with Deadpool 2 recently, with director Tim Miller and composer Junkie XL both leaving the project. Does this mean the movie is doomed to fail? Absolutely not, but the news was surprising and hopefully Fox will pick the right director to helm the project.
