Before his appearance on this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Ghost Rider has had some pretty bad luck in live-action. Back in 2007 and again in 2012, the character was played by Nicolas Cage in the feature film Ghost Rider, and its sequel Spirit of Vengeance. Both movies were shredded by critics for its terrible CGI, acting, and awful writing. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, however, seems to have brought the character back from his “grave” by introducing the Robbie Reyes version of the Rider on the show. To make things even more interesting, S.H.I.E.L.D recently revealed that Reyes isn’t the only guy with a flaming skull walking (or riding) around in the Marvel Universe which opens up a whole new array of directions for the character to go. With Marvel having tremendous amounts of success on Netflix, and fans eager to see more of Ghost Rider, many have suggested that the character be moved to the streaming platform and given a solo series.
While talking with ComicBook.com, Robbie Reyes actor Gabriel Luna revealed that there are pieces in place that would allow for his character to venture out on his own.
“It’s been talked about; there’s definitely deals in place for that potential. But I just take it one day at a time. I have so much fun right now I just want to make sure I get these episodes right. If they throw more episodes on my plate, I will do my best to do well with those stories as well.”
Luna on the possibility of a Ghost Rider Netflix series or a feature film:
“I don’t have a preference. People talk about ‘Ah man he’d be great as a feature,’ which is [an] idea too… it could be in the cinema, it could live on Netflix, whatever it is.”
While Marvel is in the early stages of possibly expanding Ghost Rider’s role in the MCU, Netflix might be the best way to go.
