Peyton Reed “Excited” To Introduce Wasp Into The MCU

Soon to join the line up of female superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp. fans were first introduced to Evangaline’s character, Hope Van Dyne, in the 2015 film Ant-Man. In and end credit scene for the movie we saw Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) revealing to Hope that he had been working on The Wasp suit for Hope to wear and since then it has been confirmed that Evangeline Lilly will appear in Avengers 4 in 2019.

Before Avengers 4, we will see Hope in the Ant-Man Sequel titled Ant-Man and The Wasp which hits theatres in 2018. Peyton Reed who directed the first movie and is set to direct the sequel spoke to MovieFone about where they are at in terms of the development for Ant-Man and The Wasp…

We’re in the writing phase right now and we start official prep this month. So it’s sort of long-lead prep, but we’re starting to get into all of the visual development stuff, and it’s really exciting.

Peyton then continued to talk about his exhilaration for introducing The Wasp in the sequel…

“I’m just personally excited to get to introduce yet another character into the Marvel Universe. After Ant-Man, now we get to see Wasp, so really designing her look, the way she moves, the power set, and figuring out, sort of, who Hope van Dyne is as a hero — because we know her in a certain context in the first movie, but now she’s going to have her coming out party — that’s exciting!”

Peyton Reed did a brilliant job with the first movie so we’re excited to hear what he has in store for the sequel. These comments coupled with the fact that The Wasp doesn’t appear until Avengers 4 tells us that perhaps Ant-Man and The Wasp will be about Hope getting used to the suit and training with it instead of the movie starting off with her being a fully trained expert at using it. This is all pure speculation as no official plot has been released for the sequel yet.

I’m sure there are a lot of fans who want to see what Edgar Wright’s original Ant-Man movie would have looked like but we got a great film from Peyton Reed in the end.

Ant-Man-The Wasp hits theatres on July 6th 2018! The currently untitled Avengers 4 hits theatres on May 3rd 2019!
