If there’s one thing Marvel’s small-screen universe on Netflix can be criticized for, it might be the length of the individual seasons. The 13 episodes each season thus far has consisted of sometimes led to pacing issues around the middle segments, but Marvel and Netflix seem to be taking care of that for next year’s The Defenders.
As announced by Marvel, the team-up event of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be limited to eight episodes, which will hopefully lead to an all around exciting first season. Marvel also revealed that the first two episodes of The Defenders will be directed by S.J. Clarkson, who also helmed some of the Jessica Jones episodes.
“S.J.’s take on the material is outstanding. We loved her work on ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ and couldn’t think of a more talented and accomplished person to helm the first two episodes of ‘Marvel’s The Defenders’,” said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television.
‘Marvel’s The Defenders’ follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
The Defenders is slated for a 2017 release, along with Iron Fist and The Punisher.
