‘The Flash’ EP Says We Won’t Return To Original Timeline; Teases ‘Savitar’

If you’ve been keeping up with The Flash on The CW you will surely know by now that Barry Allen going back in time to save his mother had some big consequences. After saving his mother, Barry was living in a timeline where he started dating Iris and Wally West was ‘The Flash’, but Barry was losing the memories of his original life. Barry had to ask Eobard Thawne/The Reverse Flash to kill his mother and put things back to the way they were, but in doing so he returned to a timeline similar to the original but with a couple of changes. Diggle and Lilah had a boy instead of a girl, Iris and Joe West didn’t speak to each other and Caitlin Snow had received her Killer Frost abilities.

Excutive producer on the DC Shows, Greg Berlanti, was asked by EW if we would be returning to the original timeline any time soon, Berlanti said the following…

“I’m not sure that we can [go back], given what we’ve established. If we’re not challenging ourselves and creating new territory and new obstacles for the characters, it’s less rewarding to watch and probably less rewarding [for the actors] to play.”

It looks like the original timeline is over and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It was an interesting way to shake up the show. I think a lot of fans expected the original timeline to be restored because that would be the cliche thing to do to have ‘everything back to normal’, but this way there is added dynamic because, for example, we know that Killer Frost was evil on earth 2 but does that mean that Caitlin on Earth 1 will become evil too?

Greg Berlanti then went on to comment on the upcoming villain, and we’re not talking about Alchemy…

He’s the god of motion, so Flash is up against his biggest foe yet,

The Flash star Grant Gustin then clarified that Savitar will be showing up “very, very soon.”

When the set images of ‘The Rival’ first surfaced online, a lot of people thought that was ‘Savitar’, apparently not! We’ll have to wait for more details.

The new timeline raises some questions that will hopefully be answered in the next few episodes!

You can catch The Flash on Tuesday nights on The CW!

What do you think of Greg Berlanti’s comments? Were you hoping we were going to see the original timeline restored? Do you think Caitlin will end up taking a similar path to her Earth 2 counterpart? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below or on our Instagram and Twitter!

It was never the original timeline. Remember, Reverse Flash kills Barry Allen’s mom as he came back from the future being disgusted with Flash so originally , Flash from the future had a mom who was alive, Di ba? Also Iris West is a different race. She should be Caucasian. Supergirl’s Jimmy Olsen is also black which means this is of Parallel Earth. Hehe.
