James Gunn Directed The Next 3 Stan Lee Cameos

Stan Lee has cameo’d in almost every Marvel related movie since the first X-Men film in 2000. From a hot dog vendor to a librarian to a DJ at a strip club in Deadpool, Stan Lee’s cameos have become an expectancy in every upcoming Marvel movie. Previously it was announced that Marvel has filmed Stan’s cameos for the next four movies and now it’s been revealed that at least three of the four cameos were shot by Guardians of The Galaxy director James Gunn. While speaking with EW, Doctor Strange director Scott Derickson spoke about the cameos…

“It’s a big deal for a 93-year-old man to go to a movie set and spend a day shooting. James shot four cameos with Stan in one day. James [Gunn] was texting me the frame. Does this look right? Does this look good?”

Gunn then added to the comments clarifying that he only shot three but there were multiple versions of each one…

“To be honest, I think I only did THREE cameos – one was shot by someone else and my third probably isn’t what you think it is. [The cameo in Doctor Strange is] one of MANY versions I shot on the day, and Scott Derrickson chose the final one. If I’m writing for Stan, why give him one line when I can give him a thousand? I just kept throwing lines at him one after the other, until we were all doubled over with laughter. Someday, after you’ve seen the movie, maybe Marvel Studios will let me share some of those with you.”

If it is the next four Marvel movie cameos that Stan Lee has already shot, that means that his cameo in Doctor Strange, Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok have been completed. This isn’t too surprising given that all of those films have finished shooting so Stan Won’t have shot any cameos for Black Panther or Avengers: Infinity War just yet.

Earlier today James Gunn took to Facebook to express his love for working with Stan Lee…

“It was definitely one of the most fun times I’ve ever had on set. There are few people in this world I love and admire more and have more fun with than Stan Lee. Even though he does love breaking my, and everyone else’s balls (I introduced him to Tom Holland for the first time and he said, “Everyone says you’re great! Personally, I don’t see it.”)”

We’ll only find out what Stan’s cameos are when the films hit theatres. You can catch Doctor Strange in theatres on November 4th, Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2 on May 5th 2017, Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7th 2017 and Thor: Ragnarok on November 3rd 2017!
