At New York Comic Con at the beginning of October, the Marvel Netflix heroes, Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist) and Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) all came on stage together signifying the first appearance of the stars of the upcoming Marvel Netflix series The Defenders. At that same live panel, Sigourney Weaver joined the heroes on stage and was announced as the villain for the series.
Charlie Cox, who was the first of the Marvel heroes to appear on Netflix, spoke with San Antonio Current about NYCC and expressed his excitement to work with her…
You know, when she came on stage with us at New York Comic Con, I wanted to say, “In Hell’s Kitchen, no one hears you scream.” I don’t think it gets better than Sigourney Weaver. I think we are immensely lucky to have her. It’s a testament to shows like Daredevil and Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. The quality of those shows have drawn someone of her caliber, which is very exciting for us. I can’t wait to read it and have a scene with her. It’s one of the experiences I’ll probably remember for the rest of my career.
We’ve said numerous times that Marvel is killing it with their Netflix shows. The most recent, Luke Cage, starred Mahershala Ali as the villain ‘Cottonmouth’ and Alfre Woodard as ‘Mariah’, who both did a wonderful job at portraying their characters. Hopefully Sigourney Weaver’s villain will have the same effect on audiences. Marvel has had some top notch talent in their movies and it seems they are bringing some big names to the small screen now as well.
Even though no confirmed air date for The Defenders, we do know that it will stream at some point in 2017 and that there will be 8 episodes in the first season.
What do you think of Charlie Cox’s comments? Do you think Sigourney Weaver will make a good villain for ‘The Defenders’? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below or on our Instagram and Twitter!
