Avengers 3 and 4 are no doubt two of Marvel’s most anticipated movies in phase 3. So far all we know is that it will involve Thanos and the Infinity Stones and it will pull together characters from all corners of the Marvel universe. Collider’s Steve Weintraub sat down with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and ask him a lot of questions regarding the two upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies…
Feige was first asked if The Avengers would ever learn that Coulson is alive, to which he replied
Ever since the Avengers: Assembled, fans have been dying to see the Avengers reactions to learning that Phil Coulson is still alive, while it’s unlikely that the television or Netflix characters will have a role in Infinity War, we might be seeing a familiar face after all, or at least hearing his name mentioned.
Feige was then asked about the filming dates of Avengers 3 and 4…
“Well without being super specific cameras start rolling in January and will continue rolling in some form or another through October, November. We are treating them both on a production level and a creative level as two distinct movies”
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are filming both movies back to back over 9 months which means that on a typical day they could be filming a scene from Avengers 3 in the morning, and then a scene from Avengers 4 in the afternoon.
Joe and Anthony Russo previously joked that there will be 67 characters in the upcoming movies and while this figure was purely said as a joke, Feige comments on the huge number of characters we will indeed be seeing…
It is primarily enough just to bring together all those characters in movies but there will be some new players. It’s about the screenplay and Chris Markus and Steve McFeely—out of everyone we’ve worked with—have a very deft hand with balance. There are a lot of characters in [the first[ Captain America; there are a lot of characters in The Winter Soldier, and of course Civil War has as many as we’ve ever had, so it’s in very capable hands [when] it comes to divvying up the storylines in a way that services a primary narrative but [also] showcases many characters. How many times will all 30, 50, 60 whatever it is be in the frame at the same time that is the hard part. And not much.
The Russo brothers did a fantastic job of giving every character their moment to shine in Captain America: Civil War and they have been working on the story for this movie for a long time so I’m sure that they will have a similar approach to each character in Infinity War. I have complete faith that the Russo’s will bring us a couple of outstanding movies in 2018 and 2019 but we’ll wait and see!
Avengers: Infinity War hits theatres on May 4th 2018 and Avengers 4 released on May 3rd 2019!
