Doctor Strange is almost here. All the actors have had their interviews and staff members who contributed are probably already on their way to their projects, if available. When it comes to availability, directors are probably asked more about upcoming projects and sequels/prequels more than the movie itself. That proved to be the case when Scott Derrickson was asked about future upcoming projects for the Doctor Strange franchise. Derrickson thought this was the proper way to introduce the Sorcerer Supreme in an already crowded MCU and hopes the sequel will be better than the first. In fact, Derrickson went so far as to compare his ideal sequel to one of the most legendary comic book movies of all time, The Dark Knight:
“What made The Dark Knight so great was that the origin story of Batman had been well-told, and then it was time to bring in a villain where you really got to go deep. And not just the Joker, also Two-Face. It was a more visceral experience, I’d love to be able to do that for Doctor Strange.”
Even though it’s way too early to discuss sequels (and prequels like the one Tilda Swinton suggested when talking about The Ancient One), Scott Derrickson has high hopes for the upcoming project. That will hinge purely on the success of his first installment in the Doctor Strange franchise, set to release next week.
