James Wan Says ‘Aquaman’ Will Be a “Swashbuckling Action Adventure”

Furious 7 director spoke with Entertainment Tonight about his upcoming project, the Aquaman standalone film to be released in 2018. He gave a bit of insight as to what’s in store for the character in his movie, as well as in Justice League, where Momoa’s Arthur Curry will arrive with his team in 2017.

“I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story,” Wan shared. “It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

“I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, [are] going to give the rest of the world a flavor of what their own standalone movie could be,” Wan explained. “And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do.

It will be interesting to see how Aquaman acts on screen next year and how Wan will be able to build and expand upon that.
