Tom Holland blew everyone away with his incarnation of ‘Peter Parker’/’Spider-Man’ in Captain America: Civil War and we can’t wait to see what Marvel and Sony have in store for us in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Even though the film doesn’t hit theatres until next year, Tom Holland was asked by WWD about sequels, Holland replied with the following…
“My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished ‘Spider-Man’ and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going.”
There was always going to be sequels featuring Tom Holland given the incredibly positive reaction to his performance. Sony still has full creative control over the rights to the character but they are taking advice, rightly so, from Kevin Feige and his Marvel Studios Team. It’s been around 11 years since we saw ‘Venom’ on screen last, so theres a potential villain!
Regarding Avengers: Infinity War, even though it will be calling on all types of heroes from every corner of the Marvel universe, it remains to be seen whether or not Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ will be one of them. Holland stated the following…
“It’s all up in the air. I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.”
If I had to bet on a hero not to be in Infinity War, ‘Spider-Man’ would probably be my first choice for two reasons. Firstly, he isn’t really involved with Infinity Stones in any way and secondly because of the specifics of the deal between Marvel and Sony. While we don’t know the specifics of the deal in order to elaborate on how possibile it is to include ‘Spider-Man’ in Infinity War, it’s fairly likely that we’ll see him at some point in 2018 or 2019.
Avengers: Infinity War and it’s currently untitled sequel are being shot back to back with filming beginning in the next month or so. Given that a deal is still to be worked out, it would be interesting to find out from Joe or Anthony Russo whether Peter Parker is already a part o the script before he is confirmed for the movie, which is what they did with Captain America: Civil War.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theatres on July 7th 2017, Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th 2018 and it’s currently untitled sequel on May 3rd 2019!
