After making a thunderous, highly acclaimed entrance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in last summer’s Captain America: Civil War, the Marvel fans around the globe are sure: Tom Holland IS Spider-Man. The 20-year-old British actor managed to portray Peter Parker with a comic accuracy, yet modernness that we hadn’t seen before; neither from Tobey Maguire nor from Andrew Garfield.
While at the New York Film Festival, Tom Holland was briefly interviewed by Variety and touched on his experience shooting next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the feeling of the Spidey suit, as well as how he approaches the role.
“The suit’s not the greatest thing, but sometimes when it’s uncomfortable, you just have to remind yourself of the long list of actors that would love to be in that suit and you just go, ‘do you know what, f**k it. I’m the luckiest kid alive. I deserve to be here and I’m going to give it my best.'”
Through numerous set videos, Holland has become famous for his remarkable athleticism and the fact that he does a good amount of the required stunts himself, involving complicated flips mid-air or scaling high buildings.
I did as many [of the stunts] as I could, but there are some things legally that I couldn’t do,” Holland explained. “There were stunt doubles who were all very, very talented guys who really supported me throughout the process. Whenever there was a stunt that I didn’t necessarily feel comfortable about, they would step in and show my how to do it, and coach me through the process.”
The one burning question we do not yet have an answer to, is whether or not Tom Holland will star alongside his fellow Avengers in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. It is to be expected, but there has been no official confirmation yet, and Holland didn’t give us that either.
“It’s all up in the air,” he concluded. “I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
