We just got the trailer for Marvel’s 2017 Netflix series Iron Fist at New York Comic Con and fans on social media seemed to lose their minds. The series will star Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones as the title character ‘Daniel Rand’/’Iron Fist’ and Lewis Tan as the series antagonist Zhou Cheng. But Zhou wasn’t the character that Tan wanted to play. In an interview with His Style Diary, Tan revealed the following…
“The thing is, I want to be the lead, the hero, the love interest character. I know kung fu, I’ve been doing martial arts for 15 years, and I love it. But I think there are these expectations. These are the roles they are comfortable with Asians doing. They aren’t comfortable in seeing you in lead roles– the ones I want.”
While his martial arts experience would certainly have been useful as the title character, there was clearly something Marvel saw that made Tan right for the role of Zhou, and something in Finn Jones that made him right for the character of ‘Daniel Rand’.
Marvel hasn’t mis-cast so far when it comes to their Netflix shows so we can safely assume that the actors will kill it in their respective roles. Tan’s martial arts experience will certainly make him a worthy opponent for Daniel Rand so get ready to see some exciting action when Iron Fist hits Netflix on March 17th 2017!
