Die hard batman fans will remember the classic television series Batman and Robin starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. The duo are reprising their roles in the upcoming animated movie, Batman: Return of The Caped Crusaders but Burt Ward has expressed his interest in returning to another upcoming DC project.
Last week Ben Affleck hinted that the title of his 2018 solo Batman movie would be The Batman and while this title isn’t 100% set in stone, Burt Ward says he is open to returning as Robin in the movie. ComicBook.com asked Ward if he would want to see a young actor portray Robin in the DCEU, to which he replied the following…
“Absolutely…Me! Let me tell you something. You remember when Star Trek ended, and Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner got all those star trek movies? They were very successful, and those guys were older. You didn’t care that they were older. You loved them,”
We know that a previous version of Robin already existed in the DCEU, due to the suit hanging in the Bat-cave with some Joker-themed yellow spray-paint on it. That doesn’t mean that another one won’t show up at some point. Given the much darker tone of the DCEU, you can’t have the classic “Holy hot-foot Batman!” catchphrases because that type of Robin certainly wouldn’t fit with the rest of the movie. However, if Burt Ward did appear as some kind of professional aid to Batman then it could be much more plausible. Given that the actor is 71, it seems unlikely that he would be open to a lot of action scenes too.
Ward continues to say…
“[Warner Brothers] know exactly what they are doing. I’m sure somethings coming in the future. When you’ve got it working so well as it is, you kind of bring it out slowly – you don’t jump for dessert before you have your main entree.”
