Asa Butterfield Interested In Joining DCEU

Fans of Asa Butterfield know the young actor is extremely talented. His relationship with comic book fans is pretty close considering he’s a big fan himself and that he was one of the three finalists chosen to portray Marvel’s adaptation of Spider-Man in the MCU. Unfortunately, Asa was eliminated after what seemed like forever in the audition process and Tom Holland was chosen over him. Tom Holland went on to debut in Captain America: Civil War and won fans over easily. People swear that he’s the best Spider-Man to show up on the big screen despite only showing up for a few scenes (which he stole, honestly). In an interview with Flickering Myth, Asa was asked a few questions about his role in the upcoming movie Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children but an interesting topic came up in the midst of that interview: his interest in taking a role in one of the comic book movies. When asked if his loyalties lie with Marvel or DC, Asa wasn’t exactly shy about his answer:

Are you more a DC or Marvel fan?

DC honestly – just from the comics and the cartoon series. I like the grittiness of DC.

Would a role in the DC Extended Universe be something that may peak your interest? Looking at you, maybe playing Robin or Nightwing would fit?

Don’t jinx it! I’m maybe a bit too tall for Robin and about the same height as Ben Affleck but maybe someone who’s taller and sleek and a little sneaky!

They went younger with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Maybe you could be the new Riddler, he’s tall and sleek!

Stop, you’re getting me excited!

Are you a fan of the new DC films, Batman v Superman, etc.?

I’m a big fan and I’m really excited to see Justice League!”

Not only would Asa excel at being portrayed as one of the various versions of Robin, he would also make a great Damian Wayne if truly invested in the role. While some would argue it’s too early to introduce a character embedded in the Batman lore, one should never doubt the dynamic duo of Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder when it comes to surprising fans. We’ll have to wait and see.
