Sam L. Jackson Talks The Return of Nick Fury

The last time we saw Nick Fury was in Avengers: Age of Ultron in the Avengers facility in New York showing Natasha Romanoff the possible location of Bruce Banner. Samuel L. Jackson who plays Nick Fury in the MCU was notably absent from this summer’s Captain America: Civil War for some unknown reason but Sam Jackson seems fairly certain that Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D will both return…

“Yeah! For sure, definitely. Why wouldn’t there be? There’s some way of fixing what they created, and hopefully somebody has that going on or Nick Fury is out there — wherever he is, probably hanging out with Jules and walking the world — figuring out what happened and how it got to that particular place. Maybe they’ll find out that all that was part of a ruse to get to something else also. That would be great. They’ll bring me back somehow, some way, for some reason. I mean, they didn’t have me around to referee the kids when they didn’t go to their rooms and got in this big old fight. We’ll see what happens.”

Last year when Jackson was asked if he was going to appear in Captain America: Civil War and his response was no but that he was pretty sure that Avengers: Infinity War would be his next appearance. Nick Fury has been in both Avengers: Assembled and Avengers: Age of Ultron so you can safely bet a lot of money that he will be in Avengers: Infinity War and it’s currently untitled sequel when the biggest threat the Avengers has ever faced, Thanos, shows up.

Another S.H.I.E.L.D favourite that fans want to see return to the big screen is Clark Greg’s Agent Phil Coulson who ‘died’ in Avengers: Assembled only to be revealed as alive in the abc show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It seems unlikely that any of the characters from the Marvel television shows will make an appearance in Infinity War but perhaps Coulson isn’t out of the question given his past in the MCU. Hopefully the Russo brothers can figure out a way to bring him back that serves the story-telling.

Avengers: Infinity War and it’s sequel are being filmed back to back over 9 months starting in October/November. Avengers: Infinity War hits theatres on May 4th 2018 and it’s untitled sequel hits theatres on May 3rd 2019!
