As we all found out in the post-credit stinger of this year’s Deadpool, Cable will be showing up in the sequel. News about the sequel has been pretty scarce for a period of time now since the movie is still in its early stages. Considering it took so long to put the first one together, everyone deserves a break and can probably be relieved to know they won’t have to work as hard to secure another successful movie in the box office. Cable, a time traveling warrior from the future, is Cyclop’s son. In the comics, Nathan Summers was transported to the future as an infant and was raised to be a warrior who then traveled back to the present.
One of the biggest nominees thanks to multiple suggestions from fans on the Internet (along with Kyle Chandler) nominated to the portray the time traveler is Stephen Lang, a great actor with experience in multiple genres. Mashable recently caught up with Stephen Lang to address these rumors. Stephen Lang had this to say when asked if he’s been approached by anyone:
“Oh sure, I was a fan of the first Deadpool and I’d be delighted to be a part of that sequel, but I haven’t spoken to anyone about it. It kept cropping up on the internet that I should play Cable. The extent of what I did was, one day I was in the gym and I tweeted, “let’s lay some Cable,” and that became construed as my campaign for the part. Even now, if someone does fan art, I’ll retweet it because I like keeping it alive. It’s the same studio as Avatar, but I don’t know if that makes it easier or more difficult logistically. Either way, no one has approached me, and I can’t even say if I’m in the actual conversation. But they must be aware of it, because whoever makes those decisions must be aware of everything. Plus, I think I’d do a pretty bang-up job with the part. Having said that, understand that my obligation is to the largest, most successful film ever made, so Avatar takes precedence.”
The interest is there but clearly his loyalty lies within the Avatar franchise. Hopefully, they won’t interfere and we’ll see the stellar actor take on the role. More news will be provided as they come along to Comic Drops. Comment who you’d want to see play Cable below!
