Donald Glover Comments On ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Star Wars’

Donald Glover is no stranger to the Spider-Man universe. When the casting call for the then-new movie was announced, Donald Glover was already an accomplished person in both the TV and music industry. He’s written for 30 Rock, starred on The Community, shown up in quite a few movies (The Martian, Lazarus Effect), and has a pretty successful rap career under the stage name Childish Gambino. After a few failed attempts at trying to incorporate himself in the Spider-verse, Donald Glover will finally get his chance next summer in Marvel’s upcoming movie. Glover recently sat down with TIME to talk about his experience with Marvel.  TIME went ahead and went off topic soon after, questioning him about his interest for the Lando role. The rumor has been circulating for some time but we finally got some clarity:

On Spider-Man: The movie was fun to shoot. I’m glad I got the opportunity. You don’t want it to feel like some sort of affirmative action. This wasn’t that at all. I know the director, he’s doing a really good job and good ideas.”

On possibly being the next Lando: “I mean, I grew up on it. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It’s a dynasty. It’s like the bible. I love that franchise.”
