As opposed to the dinner scene seen in the trailer with Amanda Waller presenting her idea of creating the Task Force X to army generals, where the final cut of Suicide Squad started off, the original script had it start somewhere entirely else.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Squad director David Ayer opened up about earlier version’s of the script.
“The very first script started in Belle Reve and told the backstories of everybody in these sort of flashback montages,” he revealed. “The original conception is that there would be these memory bursts as they sat in their cells recalling their previous lives and also get the audience up to speed about who they are and how they ended up there. The first impulse was always to do a montage in the first act, but you chase different things.”
Belle Reve (French: “beautiful dream”), for those of you who don’t know, is a prison and sanatorium that holds metahumans and supervillains, but, in the comics, also serves as the headquarters of the Suicide Squad.
Despite poor reception by critics, Suicide Squad is doing very well at the box office, just having beaten Captain America: Civil War for a more succesful Tuesday. Have you seen it yet? What did you think? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter / Instagram!
