Sir Patrick Stewart has played Charles Xavier in Fox’s X-Men universe for 16 years now and we haven’t seen the last of him…yet. It was confirmed a while ago that Patrick will play a role in Hugh Jackman’s final ‘Wolverine’ movie currently titled Wolverine 3 which hits theatres on March 3rd 2017. But new comments from Stewart suggest that Wolverine 3 might not only be Hugh Jackman’s final X-Men, but it could also be his…
“I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me. But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”
Stewart added that this Charles Xavier will be…
“a very different Charles Xavier, that’s all I’m allowed to say. NOTHING like the Charles Xavier you’ve seen in the past.”
Logan and Charles can be seen in the photo below taken during the filming of Wolverine 3:
While I believe that Wolverine 3 will be Patrick Stewart’s last X-Men movie, I’m sure there’s always a possibility that he could make a small cameo here and there in future films if need be. However, given that Fox is now bringing the younger cast, with James Mcavoy as Charles Xavier (as seen in X-Men: Apocalypse), there doesn’t seem to be any reason to have an older Charles Xavier in the movies after Wolverine 3.
We know that Wolverine 3 is set far in the future, who knows how old the professor will be at that time. Perhaps we will see the death of Charles Xavier…again. The character was ‘killed off’ in X-Men: The Last Stand only to return in the end credit’s scene of The Wolverine in time for his role in X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
No word yet on what part Charles Xavier will play in the story of the final ‘Wolverine’ movie but as it is only 6 months away, it shouldn’t be long until some form of official synopsis, or even a teaser, hits the web.
