Rouge One: A Star Wars Story will not be released until December, but it is already making headlines around the world. Star Wars has been focused heavily on during this year’s Rio Olympics, and apparently we will be getting a new trailer this Thursday thanks to a TV spot just released.
After the USA and Poland Women’s Volleyball game today, a TV spot for Rouge One was played. The clip combined athletes from the past and present Olympics as well as footage from the film. There was also some new footage in the TV spot, two new lines from Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). The TV spot ended with the big words “Trailer This Thursday” as well as an announcement that it will premiere during the Olympics on NBC in America. Whether or not the clip will premiere in other parts of the world is still unknown. Here is the clip.
This is not the first time Disney and Lucasfilm have teamed up with NBC. Last year, during Monday Night Football the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered on live TV. This boosted the game’s ratings greatly and I’m sure it will have the same effect on the Olympics. The trailer for Episode 7 blew fans away and after some shakeups behind the scenes, this is exactly what Rouge One needs to impress the regular audience.
With reports of more than necessary re-shoots, rumors of Disney taking over the post production, and even that director Gareth Edwards was booted off the project, the film is in a less than favorable position right now despite all those claims proving to be false. It also doesn’t help we’ve only seen one teaser trailer for the film, and those who went to Star Wars Celebration 2016 got to see an exclusive trailer while the worldwide audience has been left in the dark. Hopefully this trailer will be just as well received as the previous film’s trailer was.
