Its no secret that fans have been clamouring for a Black Widow solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson ever since her first appearance in Iron Man 2 in 2010. Iron Man 3 director Shane Black tells us what other Marvel film he wanted to do and provides somewhat of an update on the current status of Natasha Romanoff’s solo venture :
“Actually, I would have wanted the ‘Black Widow’, and Kevin and the gang are going to do that. I read it the other day that they are going to make that movie and, god bless it, it’s going to be great.”
Now, is this 100% confirmation that a Black Widow solo movie is on the way? Not exactly. Black could have read that report or rumour on a random website. He also could have read that in an email from somebody at Marvel, but the fact is the source cannot be identified. Kevin Feige has already stated multiple times that he wants to do a Black Widow solo movie and that its simply a matter of where they can put it.
If a Black Widow movie is shoehorned into phase 3 or 4 simply to please the fans, it runs the risk of having a poor story that was only devised so that Scarlett Johansson could have her own movie. Marvel needs to ensure the plot of the film, if it were to happen, actually drives the story forward, especially if it involves the mysterious events of Budapest that were mentioned in The Avengers.
