After the incredibly mixed reactions received by Batman v Superman earlier this year, Warner Bros is definitely hoping for a critical and commercial win from their upcoming Suicide Squad. Early reviews for the film are out and are, for the most part, positive. This means that the studio might have the hit they were hoping for in their hands!
Earlier this month, news of a Harley-Quinn solo film that is set to spin off from Suicide Squad broke, but a new rumor suggests that the studio is looking at more than that. It’s possible that several movies will spin off from the villain team-up film if it performs well at the box office.
The rumor comes from We Got This Covered, which cites a source familiar with WB’s plans for the franchise . According to the source;
“They’re going to do a sequel for sure, and the recently announced spinoff with Margot Robbie has got everyone excited, too, but their plans don’t end there. The studio is feeling very confident in the property. They think it’s going to be a really big hit and they think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters.
I’ve heard more than a few talks of giving some of the other Task Force X members their own spinoffs, and like the Harley Quinn one, these films would open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up.
The Joker is a definite possibility for a spinoff, and Jared [Leto] seems up for it from what I’ve been told. They’re also really hot on Jai Courtney’s character Boomerang right now. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot more of these guys in the years to come.”
It’s also important to remember that this is just a rumor from an anonymous source, so it’s a good idea to take it with a grain of salt for now. The “nothing’s set in stone yet”could be an easy out for the source, since if the spinoffs don’t see the light of day, then he or she could simply claim that plans changed. There’s no telling what DC and Warner Bros might have up their sleeves for the future. For any future updates be sure to follow us @ComicDrops on both Twitter and Instagram!
