Following Tom Holland’s introduction as Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his performance in Captain America: Civil War, anticipation for his first standalone film, Spider-Man: Homecoming is at an all time high. Earlier it was announced Robert Downey Jr. would appear in Homecoming, almost undoubtedly to reprise his role as the young Peter Parker’s mentor figure as he begins his career as a superhero. However, that does not exclude other MCU characters from making appearances in Homecoming.
In a recent interview, Chris Evans stated he would like to reprise his role as Captain America in more films in the future other than Captain America or Avengers films. Evans has portrayed Captain America in three Captain America films and two Avengers films, but he has yet to play the character in other heroes’ films (excluding a very short cameo in Thor: The Dark World). Among the movies Evans stated he would enjoy appearing in included Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“Guardians would be fun wouldn’t it? I mean, but that’s very outer spacey. Cap’s more of an earthbound guy. Maybe the next Spider-Man’s. You know those are going to be fantastic and I think Tom’s such a great actor so that might be a fun one to pop up in.”
Evans continued in the interview, mentioning how much he enjoys playing one of Marvel’s most popular characters. He has appeared in the MCU frequently since 2010, and according to Evans he would like to continue:
“I’ve really found a level of comfort with the character over the course of, what is it, seven movies or something? I can’t even keep track, but we’ve been doing it since 2010, and now it really does feel like home. It just feels like very comfortable to me so, any way they want to use me in any other type of cameo, its fun to be, its fun to be a part of this chapter of cinema.”
While Spider-Man: Homecoming is a standalone Spider-Man film, Iron Man is set to appear alongside Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and according to one of Marvel’s highest paid actors, there is the potential for a Captain America cameo as well. If Cap were to have a cameo in Homecoming, it would be interesting to see how he would appear following the events of Captain America: Civil War, in which two factions of Avengers were made with Cap and his team working against the law.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will premiere in theaters July 7th, 2017.
