Olivia Munn Talks Playing ‘Psylocke’ Beyond ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

With 20th Century Fox’s next X-Men film just around the corner, plans are already being made for the future of the franchise and its characters. What is sure to be a sucess at the box office, director Bryan Singer has done something special with his latest mutant-based flick. By introducing a new, fresh, and significantly younger cast, he will target a modern, more casual audience by producing a more relatable movie.

Among the few characters that will be re-introduced this May, is Psylocke. Olivia Munn will be taking on the character, and, like many of her fellow X-Men stars, has apperantly already anticipated future appearances. Confirming she has a multi-picture deal with the studio, but reluctantly commenting on any absolute future appearances as the character, Munn comments,

“No, I don’t. I just know for this movie it was really important for me that Psylocke got to show off how strong and lethal she is with the fight scenes. So that’s what I know for this one.”

When the actress was asked if the success of Deadpool with both the critics and the box office could in turn cause an R-rated X-Men film, Munn said,

“I think what happened with Deadpool is a combination of Ryan being so amazing, and the writer, and the director, and everybody. For anything to be successful it has to be the perfect storm, so you hope you’re the perfect storm all the time, right?”

At the end of the day, not a lot comes out of this interview. This could mean that either there are drastic plans for her character in the future that have to remain completely disclosed, or that there are truly no plans for Psylocke beyond X-Men: Apocalypse. At least, so far.

With 20th Century Fox revealing two new release dates in their X-Men schedule, do you think a Psylocke solo film could be among them? Are you looking forward to her appearance this May? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
